Selected performances

Some highlights.

A few performances that stand out, with tickets, photos, and notes.

Rossini at the Met

New York, 2015.

La donna del lago, the Met's first staging of Rossini's Scottish romance, with Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez, conducted by Michele Mariotti.

The opera had waited nearly two centuries for its first Met staging. DiDonato and Flórez, both leading Rossini singers, shared music that demands great agility from both voices. A contemporary review praised DiDonato's performance.

The opera reached the Met nearly 180 years after its La Scala premiere. A contemporary review praised DiDonato's performance.

The Minden Ring cycle

Minden, 2019.

The performance of Götterdämmerung ended a four-year Ring cycle at the 528-seat Stadttheater Minden, which has no resident ensemble.

The Wagner Verband Minden and Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie supported the cycle. The performance drew an 18-minute ovation. A contemporary review praised Frank Beermann and a cast led by Thomas Mohr, Dara Hobbs, Andreas Hörl, and Renatus Mészár.

After the performance, Dad fell on the stairs outside the theater and scared the hell out of me.
